In the fall of 2022, Rohith Guttamidhi, Matteo De Boni, and Emely Rachela established The Chekhovians, a theatre company born from a shared passion for reintroducing Anton Chekhov’s works in their original spirit—as comedies, and social commentary not merely as solemn dramas. For the first two years, we’ve brought Chekhov’s characters and wit to life, staging performances in New York and Chiavenna, Italy, and sharing Chekhov’s oeuvre with new audiences.
In late 2024 we renamed our company, which now is Arkadia Theatre Company. The name is inspired by the name of one of Chekhov’s most famed characters Irina Arkadina and derived from the greek word arcadia – a heavenly, idyllic place.
